Rowan’s
Law Receives Royal Assent
On March 7, 2018, Ontario enacted new legislation, Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety), 2018, as well as amendments
to the Education Act. This new legislation and concussion policies and guidelines
under the Education
Act will protect amateur athletes by improving concussion safety
on the field and at school and will make Ontario a national leader in concussion
prevention, detection and management.
While the full regulations are being developed, the Ontario government is
seeking feedback from sport associations, athletes and parents.

Rowan's Law Information Package
Mississauga Ringette (and Ontario Ringette) already have some requirements for concussion education (Making Headway course), and concussion reporting and return to play protocols. Rowan’s Law will likely result in modifications/updates to these policies, as they will become enshrined in law. In particular, there will likely be requirements related to parental education and review of concussions and resources. We would suggest that you review the basic resources provided at the link above, and complete the survey (as a parent/individual or athlete) at the link below. This will allow your opinions/feedback to be used in the development of the upcoming regulations.
