Four Mississauga Mustangs U10 ringette players were joined by players from the Burlington Blast and the Richmond Hill Lightning to form a regional team that competed against elite players from other regions across Canada in the “Prospects Ringette Invitational”. This year’s Prospect Tournament was held in Kingston, Ontario from June 19-21 where the girls played under the banner name of “Southern Region Seahorses”.
The Prospects Tournament provides ringette players an opportunity to play against the best players at a high level of competition which results in enhancing ringette skills, further developing cooperation and teamwork skills and providing a chance for players to meet other players from different regions across Canada. The four Mustangs participants included Emily Brodie, Beatrix Datars, Ella Fagan and Caitlin Woolard.
The team was a perfect 4-0 at the end of round robin play after defeating powerhouses from Metcalfe 6-1, West Ottawa 10-7, Gloucester-Cumberland “A” 4-1, and Gloucester-Cumberland “B” 6-3. The girls advanced to the final and a rematch against Gloucester-Cumberland “A” after dispatching Metcalfe 8-3 in a semi-final. The final was a nail biter with the Southern Region Seahorses prevailing 2-1 to capture gold and finish the tournament undefeated.
Winning this tournament was a combination of passionate play and hard work that was further highlighted by making new friends and having fun at the same time.
Congratulations girls!
